Brown Rice California Hand Roll

The California is my absolute favorite Sushi Roll. I was told that it’s not really traditionally Japanese, but each time I go to have Japanese food, I must have a California Roll. The best California Rolls I have ever eaten by the way, are served at Doraku Japanese restaurant in Miami. They chop the crab stick very finely and it’s almost like a mousse in their California Rolls. Therefore, I recommend to chop the crab stick for this recipe as well.

These Hand Rolls contain following 3 Superfoods:

  • Seaweed
  • Brown Rice
  • Avocado

  • Sushi Nori (seaweed sheets)
  • Brown Rice (cooked)
  • Avocado, cut in thin slides
  • Cucumber cut in thin sticks
  • Crab sticks, cut very finely, almost like a mousse

  • Cut the Sushi Nori in half, place one half on your working surface
  • Then place the Brown Rice, Crab meat, Avocado and Cucumber on one side of the Nori
  • This video shows actually very well how to roll up a Hand Roll, as this can be a bit tricky
  • Also, compared to Sushi rice, the Brown Rice I used was way less sticky, so it was important to roll up tightly, as it tends to fall out otherwise (in case you live in a city with more Asian shops than I do, you might be lucky and come across Brown Sushi rice, in this case, I recommend you to use that one)
  • Serve the Hand Roll with some soy sauce, wasabi and pickled ginger

Arigato for reading this post! 😉
